Another classic black and white sketch by Precise One. Not sure of the date, but I'd guess it was done right after the RTD changed its name to the MTA.
Here's another truck for "foodies" to chase around featuring Cantinflas. (Not sure if they have a tuiter though, so might haveta actually explore the city to find it...)
Done did Strife's first 7" exclusive re-release for This Is Hardcore Fest 2011. Edition of 50, signed and numbered. Go! (Based on a photo by Dan Rawe.)
Back in the day, my dad took me to meet comic book artist Stan Sakai at a local comic book store, and I became a fan on the spot. He was signing autographs and making sketches along with another hero of mine, Sergio Aragones (of Groo the Wanderer and Mad Magazine fame.) I remember them being super cool and hooking me up with sketches of Usaji Yojimbo and Groo. Anyway...
...Flash forward to 2011: Rollin' around Little Tokyo here in L.A. tonight, LeHumanBeing and I stumbled upon an exhibit featuring Stan Sakai's work. The show has an extensive collection of everything from preliminary sketches to finished paintings, all centered around his iconic samurai rabbit Usagi Yojimbo. If you find yourself in L.A. between now and the end of October, definitely worth catching.

I can't believe that it's been 30 years since homeboy up there challenged the world for the first time with that most existential of questions: "How high can you get?" Sapo verde yiu yiu, Donkey Kong!

MONOKROME: World-class Graffiti Design in Black and White
Compiled by Robert "Cute" Whitelock | Designed by Aaron Munday monokrome.co.uk
I received my copy of MONOKROME in the post yesterday and have been reading it cover to cover since. The book more that delivers on its title, presenting graff-related illustration, graphic design, 3D modeling, and lettering. One of the things that sets this book apart from most on the subject is the insightful and thorough editorial content: each person's work is accompanied by text describing their background, influences, and approach. The design of the book itself is on point and really highlights the inherent qualities of working in black and white. I would definitely recommend adding this one to your collection. Artists included in this volume include NASH & DOES, REMI/ROUGH, HUSH, ASKER, ITCH, INKFETISH, KILLER GERBIL, DENZ, KOFIE, INKIE, BENONE, SYSTEM, and many more. [Like EYEONE -ed.]
From the book's website: ""MONOKROME brings together writers from all four corners of the globe with different styles, different views and different periods of time spent in graffiti. It creates an arena that is compelling for the veteran graffiti writer, the newcomer and the outsider alike... You'll see what you don't normally see; the work that happens before it gets to the wall, the work that builds upon what went before it, the work that bridges the gap between the old and the new. All in black and white..."
I decided to dust off the ol' books and scan some of the more acceptable-ish pages. These drawings were done in the early-ish 1990s. I guess time flies when you're havin' lotsa fun...
I have a print in tonight's Poster Child exhibit goin' on in the LBC. Info below:
